RIP Mary O’Reilly FRIAI

The IABS was very sad to learn of the recent death of Mary O'Reilly FRIAI. Mary (née Gardiner) graduated from the School of Architecture in UCD in 1952 (the 33rd woman graduate) and shortly after, married her fellow classmate, John O'Reilly. In 1959, following an enquiry from the RIBA Benevolent Society regarding a hardship case in Ireland, Mary was one of the founding members of the Irish Architects Benevolent Society. She remained closely involved in the work of the Society for more than 50 years as a Trustee and an active committee member. She and John hosted annual garden parties to raise funds for the IABS at their beautiful home and garden in Enniskerry.
